We recorded our first studio e.p “I am the speaker you are the microphone” in 2007 at the Crash Factory in Nottingham. Really pleased with the results we decided to go back 6 months later to record some demos of a few songs we’d been working on.
The owner of the studio was in the process of setting up his own independent label –the now defunct ‘Exit Music’. He really liked what we were doing, so much so he offered to release it. We spent a few days longer fleshing it out, getting it mixed and “ta-dah” the first Sons Of Itto Studio album was born.
It’s demo-esque origins shine through in places, but there’s some stonking great tracks on there... Like live favourites, “the icky, icky shake" and "not the same girl", the Talking Heads-esque “pablo ate my zombie” and beautiful and never-to-be-played-again (because we can’t remember the unique tuning!) “jayde’s guitar could be your life”. Not to mention THE GREATEST ever recorded version of Mission of Burma’s “That’s when I reach for my revolver”.
For me there’s also tons of band memories hanging out in the studio and a cameo from the supremely talented Jayde Morrison. We held a packed-out release party to celebrate its release with people queuing outside not able to come in.
For the following year the Itto Purps, Flips Itto and Milo Itto line-up would be at the height of their powers.
